New release: Emergency Response by Nicki Edwards.
(Giveaway now ended.)
But first - inspiration and a walk through a very country wedding with Nicki.
The inspiration for Eagle’s Ridge Farm, which features in all my books, comes from a farm in the tiny township of Moriac in the rolling hills near Geelong called Raven’s Creek. It is owned and operated by friends of mine, husband and wife team Hayden and Jasmin Findlay and their daughter Pippa.
For as long as he can remember, Hayden has had a passion for farming and working on the land—a bit like my hero Joel O’Connor in Intensive Care. When I pictured Joel starting his own paddock-to-plate enterprise, I gleaned a lot from what Hayden and Jasmin were doing at Raven’s Creek. In eight years they have totally redeveloped their 90 acre family property, converting a humble beef farm into a biodiverse, naturally regenerating environment with a wide variety of stacked enterprises, including my favorite – the berries!
Raspberries and a huge range of brambleberries were planted at Ravens Creek Farm in 2011 and these are available to pick between December and January every year. The date is marked on my calendar, and I plan to make many batches of jam in my thermomix this year.
At Raven’s Creek they also sell their own grass-fed beef and free range pork as well as produce natural honey, free range eggs, seasonal vegetables and cut flowers. These are sold in season in their farmer’s market and café.
My coffee drinking hubby loves the coffee and I’m rather fond of the various biscuits and sweet things cooked up in the kitchen by Jasmin and Hayden’s mums!
“Now join your hands and with your hands your hearts….” Shakespeare
In recent years weddings have become very popular at Raven’s Creek and when you attend one, you’ll know why. When friends Carla and Zach held their wedding in December last year, I knew I had to use Raven’s Creek as the setting for the opening scene in Emergency Response. I love the rustic theme, the outdoor setting, the fairy lights strung around the berries, the clean crisp air. Romance is made from this.
These are the doors Mackenzie from Emergency Response waited behind.
How gorgeous is this setting for the ceremony? At Zach and Carla’s wedding, they wrapped sheets of calico around the straw bales.
The guy performing the service for Zach and Carla is none other than my own gorgeous hubby-hero, minister of religion and wedding celebrant extraordinaire!

Intensive care nurse Mackenzie Jones is no stranger to running. As a teenager she fled her family home, leaving tragedy and loss in her wake. Now, after fifteen years alone in Sydney, with the strain of working in a city hospital wearing her thin, she’s tempted to run again.
Mackenzie jumps at the chance to work in a mining town in the Western Australian desert – anything to lift her spirits. Though she barely dares to hope, she wonders if she might find the kind of love that can ease her loneliness.
In the outback, Nathan Kennedy is at a loose end. He’s been making money in the mines for years, and pressure from his family to return to the east coast, settle down and get married is reaching fever pitch. The problem is, he hasn’t met the right woman.
When Mackenzie turns up in town, there’s an instant attraction between her and Nathan, maybe even true love. But tragedy’s not done with Mackenzie Jones – the past is about to catch up with her in more ways than one.
Can Nathan convince Mackenzie to stop running, or is this just another tragedy in the making?

I love finding new authors books I haven’t had a chance to read yet. Sounds like a great read 🙂
Thanks Kez. I hope you enjoy it. Make sure you grab my first book while it’s still free - probably only for another 24 hours! Happy reading 🙂
Hi! Nicki,
Thanks for sharing about Raven’s Creek. Its such a beautiful place.Very beautiful piece of land. I hope to visit one day. .Congrats! on your new release. My local library will surely order this e-book as the first one is already there. I read e-books from my local library, as they can be read online, just have to be a member of that library.
Hi Jessy. I hope you enjoy my latest book. If you ever get a chance to visit Raven’s Creek, you won’t be disappointed.
It’s neat to read that rustic weddings are popular the world around.
I agree. My hubby is a minister so he’s done all sorts of weddings but this was our first truly rustic one.
Fabulous pictures thank you. I have been raspberry picking. I ate more then made it into the bucket.
Looking forward to a great read.
Hi Mary. One of the things they do at Raven’s Creek is let you pay extra for samples. Trust me, I walk out with a belly full and a container full of berries. Can’t wait for the season to open. Hope you enjoy my book. 🙂
Sounds like a great read! Add it to my To Read pile!
Thanks Peta-Lee. If your pile is anything like mine, it’s a leaning tower of Pisa! Happy reading when you get to it LOL.
Ravens creek sounds and looks lovely. may have to make that visit a Sunday drive.( I live in Melbourne)
Bronwyn you MUST. It’s only 20 minutes the other side of Geelong - just off the ring road. Easy to get to and a perfect way to spend a lazy sunny weekend.
Being ‘banned’ from buying books til Xmas is cruel so waiting two more months to read this sucks! Can’t wait to read it!!!
Haha. Was that a self imposed ban? I’ve done the same thing. I hope at least you grabbed my first book while it’s free - that doesn’t count in the non-buying-book ban does it?
Hi Nicki, have downloaded your first book, can’t wait to read it! I have heard of so many new authors this week alone, my kindle is becoming very full!!
Thanks for downloading my first book. I hope you enjoy it. I understand about the Kindle being full - I’m waiting for mine to say “full”! Enjoy all the wonderful new authors - there are so many and this website is brilliant for finding them. Happy reading.
i checked amazon here, but ’emergency response’ won’t be released until 11-26 here in the US. understand well about hubby being a minister - mine is retired now, but was active for 45 yrs till we retired when he was 80 three yrs ago.
Hi Jo-An. Thanks so much for your comments. Emergency Response is only available in ebook format at this stage and won’t be released in paperback until the end of November.
45 years is a lot of active service in ministry - I reckon my hubby will still be going strong when he’s 80 - God allowing. Bless you. x
My dream wedding would definately be something rural like this - we really are blessed to have some amazing properties down around our great city of Geelong! Can’t wait to read the book
