Bunyip Bay.
Frankie and Simone are sisters and best friends. Could a new man in town drive a wedge between them for the first time ever?
Cafe owner Frankie has been unlucky in love all her life. It’s hard in a small town like Bunyip Bay to meet prospective partners. Her sister, Simone, lost the love of her live years before and is now devoted to raising their two teenage girls, leaving little time for romance. When Frankie is kissed by a handsome stranger who calls her Simone, it’s a case of mistaken identity – but who is this man and how does he know Simone?
Logan Knight is in town to meet up with a woman he has met online. Although raised on a farm with his brother Angus, he has travelled the world as a journalist and is now looking forward to meeting a girl and settling down. The girl in the cafe was an amazing kisser – but not the one he thought he was meeting!
Reclusive farmer Angus wants nothing to do with Logan’s plans for improving the property’s finances and finding a partner – until he meets the sisters at a wedding. Who is attracted to whom? More importantly, can Frankie and Simone sort out their feelings for the two brothers without destroying their very close bond?
Over to Rachael…
It’s no secret I’m a sucker for romance, especially romance in the country! So things like Farmer Wants a Wife (who else is addicted to that show?) and sites for the purpose of rural matchmaking always hook me. It was the latter that helped inspire OUTBACK SISTERS (which was brainstormed on a road trip with author Fiona Palmer but that’s another story). It can be hard to find love at the best of times, but especially in the bush, so I can understand why people turn to online opportunities.
OUTBACK SISTER begins with a mix-up resulting from a rural dating site and is the story of sisters Frankie and Simone (and the two men that vie for their attentions). I had a lot of fun writing TWO heroines and TWO heroes, but it was also a juggle doing so.
Frankie and Simone are about as close as sisters can get at the beginning of the story but their feelings for the boys threaten this relationship as the story progresses.
Oh and did I mention those “boys” are also brothers!! Therefore in addition to the romance and rural issues explored in OUTBACK SISTERS, it is also a story about sibling rivalry and those complicated family relationships.
Whether you’re new to the Bunyip Bay series or are an old-timer eager to visit again, I hope you’ll enjoy the read. Here’s a little sneak peek.
Excerpt from Outback Sisters by Rachael Johns
‘I’m sorry to put you in this position,’ he said, reaching out and brushing his thumb against her cheek.
She caught his hand in hers and smiled back. ‘There’s two of us playing this game.’ And the guilt wasn’t going to stop her. ‘I told her I was going on a date today.’
His eyes widened. ‘You did?’
‘Yep. She asked me to go visit Aunty Esther with her and I had to tell her I was busy.’
‘What exactly did you say?’
‘That I’d met someone on Rural Matchmakers and was meeting them for lunch. At least this way I’m partly being honest.’
‘What did she say?’
‘Oh, she and the girls were happy for me. They wanted details. I told them your name was Clive.’
‘What?’ He coughed as if the last mouthful of his drink had gone down the wrong way. ‘Where did Clive come from?’
‘I dunno.’ She gave him a sheepish smile. ‘It just popped into my head.’
‘Couldn’t you have come up with something more macho?’
She laughed. ‘Like what?’
He thought a moment. ‘Like Jake, or Mitch, or Hunter. Hell, Bruce would be better than Clive. I don’t look like a Clive, do I?’
‘No, I promise you don’t. You’re way better looking than a Clive.’
‘Why thank you.’ He puffed up his chest, making her laugh again. Then he reached over and took her hand, his expression turning serious. ‘Try not to beat yourself up. We’re not doing anything wrong here. Neither of us are seeing anyone else – and you just don’t want to hurt your sister so are biding your time waiting for the right moment to tell her. You’re a good person, Frankie. And a very sexy one as well.’
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the glow she felt at his words. It was weird feeling so happy and so reprehensible at the same time.

Sisters. My sister wanted to wear Goth bridesmaid gear at my wedding? She huffed and puffed and flounced down the stairs in a flummery of organza - and I never loved her more. She told me later she’d never felt so beautiful - despite the boots.
